Artist Statement
I have always been enthralled with how we have, over time, connected and disconnected with the environment through our practices, narratives, and uses of the land. I grew up in rural England around old growth trees and folklore and am inspired to perpetuate these themes in my art, writing, and music because they hold so much resonance. In this era of global warming and wildfires, I feel a duty to create art that instills empathy for our rural landscapes, and reminds us how much a part of us they are. In my work, nature is embodied in human form (and vice versa) as a reminder of how the environment holds a mirror to our bodies, our choices, and our actions, and gives us the opportunity to be accountable (and to remind us that perhaps there is still a little magic out there after all).
